Welcome to Matt's FoodWiki
This wiki contains recipes, as well as ingredient details, information on cooking techniques, and pretty much anything else I can find that is food-related.
Feel free to contribute any information/articles/feedback, or just take advantage of the ever-growing number of articles and recipes!
Matt 07:35, 30 September 2014 (EDT) Well, after languishing on a desktop, then in a directory buried in the NAS, the FoodWiki is finally on the web properly!
Matt 13:27, 17 January 2009 (EST) Not much news, as the project has been kind of quiet over the last year. However, I've added the instructions for our new slow cooker under the Slow Cooked category, as well as the new Rice Cooker
Matt 10:46, 4 November 2007 (EST) Had some technical difficulties for about a week, but we appear to be back up and running.
Matt 15:27, 15 September 2007 (EDT) Tried to upgrade the version of MediaWiki, but it didn't go well. I suspect it may have to do with the way the wiki-on-a-stick is configured. I'm looking into the possibility of migrating the wiki to a Virtual Machine running Linux.
Matt 11:49, 30 August 2007 (EDT) To help catch up the Ingredients list, I've take care of all Ingredients pages that didn't exist, and had 30 or more links to them, as well as a few related ones (for example, Extra-virgin olive oil now links to the appropriate section of Olive oil). Enjoy!
Matt 14:51, 7 August 2007 (EDT) I've made some changes to the Categories; a few more have been created, and some other ones have been nested within larger, more broad categories.
Matt 14:26, 14 July 2007 (EDT) Due to an outage while I was away, the wiki was unavailable until last night.
Matt 23:34, 14 June 2007 (EDT) w00t, just added a 500 GB SATA hard drive to the system! Had to take the host down for about 15 minutes, but other than that, no blips.
Matt 18:28, 13 June 2007 (EDT) Entered almost 50 new recipes from a text file that I've been working on the last few months. Enjoy!
Matt 11:38, 2 June 2007 (EDT) Ack! The apache daemon went down again. Not sure when it went down, but it's back up.
Matt 20:45, 17 May 2007 (EDT) Noticed earlier today that the site was responding rather slowly. When I got home, I discovered that the webserver service had crashed. Restarted, and everything seems to be back to normal. I'm thinking of taking the site down to give the system hosting it a bit of a refresh. If you can't get on later, that's probably why.
Matt 18:32, 26 April 2007 (EDT) I did some rejigging of the Asian category, as it was getting a bit bloated and needed some subcategories. I've set up new subcategories for a few of the major culinary types within Asia, but if you feel that I've missed one, feel free to add it! I also added a special subcategory to Japanese - Sushi!
Matt 22:43, 25 April 2007 (EDT) Eureka! I reconfigured the MIME Types file, and now if you click a video, your browser should ask you what you want to do with it (Open or Save).
Matt 13:18, 22 April 2007 (EDT) Finally finished going through all the recipes. As I suspected, the ingredient page for Salt became the most-referenced that wasn't already created, so I got it started. Also, updated the Onions page to link to the various varieties.
UPDATE Matt 23:25, 22 April 2007 (EDT) Tested the extension; worked like a charm! Now, all that needs to be done is putting the video files in to the appropriate recipe pages, and transcribing of the recipes...feel free to take on a couple if you want ;) You'll find the list under New Videos
Matt 13:14, 21 April 2007 (EDT) I managed to track down an extension that will allow multiple files to be added to the wiki by putting them in a folder on the server. Will test later.
Matt 18:32, 20 April 2007 (EDT) After some discussion and consideration, I've decided to go through all the recipes posted thus far and update those that do not have a reference link for every ingredient. Even if the ingredient page hasn't yet been written, I think it's better for future cross-referencing. Also, I've updated the Pasta page with all the types of Pasta that are currently listed in a recipe - if you see a type missing, feel free to add it, even if there isn't a recipe here right now that calls for it.
Matt 23:16, 18 April 2007 (EDT) Had a brief outage, due to some IP address stuff. It should be straightened out by now, but if you get some weird errors, let me know.
Matt 15:49, 16 April 2007 (EDT) Went through most of the recipes and changed the "Frame" tag on the images to "Thumb", and fixed a few formatting odds and ends. If you see any that I missed, feel free to fix them, or let me know and I'll fix them.
UPDATE 17:44, 16 April 2007 (EDT) Added a Feature Requests page
Matt 18:57, 15 April 2007 (EDT) It's official - the FoodWiki is now available via the Internet! Currently, only users that I have created will have access, so if you want in, just e-mail me.
In other news, I'd highly recommend looking at the following site for tips on how to take advantage of the markup language used in this wiki:
Also, Take a look at the following internal pages:
Matt 17:53, 8 April 2007 (EDT) Experimenting with making the server run full-time on my desktop, as my webhost appears to be not planning an upgrade to MySQL any time soon after all. Also added material from the LCBO's "Spring!" mini-publication. I experimented using the scanner to see if the OCR function will help speed input of new materials. Overall, it does seem to be faster, and also gives me an opportunity to add in graphics from printed materials.
Matt 17:31, 6 October 2006 (EDT) Created a new general user for myself. Added new Logo image. Updated the configuration to allow MP3 and PDF files in addition to the existing allowance for graphics files. Found out from webhost that MySQL 5.0 will be implemented sometime in the next two months.
